YOUnion at Tallahassee is located across from the Florida State University campus, allowing walkability to Gaines Street and other locations to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day close to home.

Suppose you have Irish heritage or are just interested in trying new food and joining in the fun of the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. In either case, you will find many options to get in the spirit around your apartment near FSU. Grab your green getup so you don't get pinched, and let's explore our options around Tallahassee!

St. Patrick's Day falls on March 17th every year and originated to honor the patron Saint of Ireland, St. Patrick himself but has evolved into a celebration of all things Irish culture. Many celebrate with unique foods, music, dancing, parades, and wearing green in hopes of finding a four-leaf clover for luck. And we are in luck because this area is a great place to celebrate this holiday with all kinds of fun options around the Florida State University campus.

Wear Green

The first step before you start celebrating is to make sure you have something green to wear. Whether you are celebrating at home or going out with friends, the color green is an essential staple with this holiday, and you are in luck because we found FSU/St Patrick's day attire for purchase.

Pick a Pub to Celebrate At

If you want to go out with friends to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, there will be no shortage of special events and drink specials at every restaurant and bar around your student apartment in Tallahassee. There are many options within walking distance to the FSU campus, like Madison Social on Gaines Street, but our area has plenty of options if you are looking for an authentic Irish pub. McGowan's Hops and Grapes is located in northeast Tallahassee. In midtown Tallahassee, there is Finnegan's Wake Irish Pub and The Brass Tap, where they will have the 8th Annual Tallahassee's Biggest Baddest St. Paddy's Party.

At Home Fun

If you are a homebody or just too busy as an FSU freshman and looking to celebrate at home, we have some ideas for you. Put on your green apparel and head to the store for all the green and shamrock decorations to adorn your apartment. Make a favorite Irish dish, like this corned beef and cabbage recipe. Invite some friends and make it a party, including some green drinks or beer if you are over twenty-one.

Local Events

If you are looking for something different than the above options maybe try the 2022 Shamrock Scurry 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run at the Killearn United Methodist Church. This run has been a favorite event in town since 1981, includes a pancake breakfast afterwards and all the proceeds go to local charities. Or the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day, join Irish Dance Tallahassee for an Irish dance workout at their Jigs & Swigs class and have a post-workout beverage.

In years past, Tallahassee celebrations included a St. Patrick's Day parade, and we get closer to the holiday more choices to celebrate near your Florida State University apartment may pop up. Spring is a beautiful time to be out in our city to enjoy the weather and explore fun events, especially St Patrick's Day celebrations.
