Chilling by the pool isn't a bad way to start 2021 either!

After the most hectic year of our lives, our planet is more excited to dive into the new year than ever before. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic will keep us from throwing our typical NYE gatherings at FAMU apartments, but that doesn't mean we can't have the New Year's bash we deserve. That's not to say, though, that we can't have at least a little fun! Let me give you some ideas on how to ring in this much needed new year.

Fireworks Around FAMU Apartments

Setting off fireworks is a pretty common activity around Florida for almost any occasion, but New Year's and Independence Days are especially vibrant. A great way for students in FAMU apartments to launch into the next year is to set off some fireworks! Of course, you will have to adhere to the Florida fireworks laws and the rules of your apartment to start 2021 on a good note. While your apartment may allow you to set them off in the parking lot, it is equally important to check in with your neighbors and roommates; if your apartments are meant for four or more residents, for example, and one of your roommates has to work the next morning, they might not appreciate pops, bangs, and whistles plaguing their sleep at 12:00am. As a general rule of thumb, it's a good idea to check in with everyone that might be affected by your firework fest.

If you have checked in and everybody is okay with it, you should go ahead and buy the fireworks you feel are appropriate for such an event. Florida law bans the use of launched fireworks, but allows from-the-ground fireworks such as "fountains," which can be found online or in-person at roadside stands, to be used outdoors and away from flammable structures or plants. As long as all these boxes are checked, you can curate a small gathering of your roommates in a fiery New Year's celebration with no problem at all!

Get Up and Get Down!

The bars and nightclubs within walking distance of many FAMU apartments offer a myriad of options for a New Year's gathering. The Hotel Indigo in College Town offers a "Roaring Twenties" New Year's Eve party that is sure to keep you and your friends entertained. Other paid New Year's events include "New Year's Eve on Adams" at Adams Rooftop Bar & Lounge at the Tallahassee Doubletree, "Good Bye 2020" at Studio D, and Bajas' "Mook Boy" concert on the night of January 1st. If you and your friends are looking for some exclusive events on December 31st or January 1st, there are the venues to consider if you live near Tennessee Street or in a College Town apartment. Just be sure to wear a mask to slow the spread!

As you can see, there are plenty of options for you to ring in the new year with the ones you love. While 2020 presented a lot of challenges, especially in terms of holiday celebrations, you can still have a good time with the ones you love and dive into 2021 on an extra good note!
