Frenchtown was a historic, thriving African-American neighborhood following the Civil War. Post war, many freed slaves settled into this area, calling it their home. Here, they built a community center focused on commercial activity. Growing business began to predominate the area. Although only a few structures remain, there has been a passionate call to help aid and revitalize the area. Projects such as Urban Entertainment Center are working to make their way into the city.
