Florida summers are hot. Any tips for fun ways to cool down near my FAMU apartment?

Let's be honest, Florida isn't known for its breezy, comfortable summers. In fact, the state's summers are quite the opposite - hot and sticky. However, there's no reason to let that give you the summertime blues! There are plenty of "cool" activities you can do around your FAMU apartment.

Swimming Pool

Lucky for you most apartments near Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University come equipped with a relaxing swimming poolsto rid yourself of the summer heat. Having a pool in your apartment community can have many advantages, especially in the summertime! Taking a dip in the pool is probably one of the easiest and quickest ways to cool down in the summer. If you're into health and fitness, you can kill two birds with one stone: do a few laps in the pool and cool off at the same time! Pools are also a great place to hang out and make new friends. Many FAMU apartment communities coordinate resident activities like pool parties – which can be a great week to connect with your neighbors. Some apartment communities even offer outdoor kitchens and grills, which are perfect for hosting a summer BBQ. To make the deal even "cooler," all of this comes at no extra expense to you and the community's maintenance takes care of all the pool-related chores.

Museums

The thought of having to go outside in the Florida heat can sometimes be unbearable. Apartments in Downtown Tallahasseeare close to a variety of different museums. Check out the Tallahassee Automobile Museum. This non-profit museum opened its doors in 1996 and houses over 160 automobiles in a 100,000 square foot "green" building. Here you can check out the three Batmobiles that are on display and see the horse drawn funeral carriage that
reportedly carried former president Abraham Lincoln. Cars not tickling your fancy? Another great museum close to your FAMU apartment is the Tallahassee Museum. Take an elevated boardwalk to see some of Florida's native wildlife or meander through restored historic buildings. You could even visit the Big Bend Farm and explore what life was like in the 1880s. Who said history couldn't be fun? Also close by is the Museum of Florida History.

The Great Outdoors

If you consider yourself an outdoorsy person, there are still ways to beat the summer heat while admiring Florida's beautiful nature. Apartments near the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University are close to quite a few parks. One of those parks being Alfred B Maclay Gardens State Park. There are plenty of tall, shady oak trees to relax under on this park's 1,176 acres. Dive into a good book or dive into Lake Hal from the shaded beach area. Lafayette Heritage Trail, another nearby park, is the perfect place to find a shady spot to relax. It's perfect for a late morning picnic or a calming yoga session. Just because you're outside, doesn't mean you can't keep cool. There is a way for everyone to keep cool, whether it be taking a dive into a pool or a lake, or diving into a good book under a shady oak. Don't let the heat keep you cooped up in your apartment this summer!
