Anna DeJonge

Anna DeJonge is a passionate storyteller from Holland, Michigan. Her favorite place on earth is her grandparents' home in the upper peninsula of Michigan, which sits right on the lake. To everyone's surprise, Anna decided to trade Michigan for Florida, moving a thousand miles away from her triplet siblings. After three great years at Florida State University, she doesn't regret the big move and calls Tallahassee home.

At Florida State University, Anna is a current senior double-majoring in Creative Writing and Media Communication Studies, as her two passions are writing and people. Anna's love for writing started at a young age. She vividly remembers writing a funny fiction story in first grade and when she watched her teacher laugh at her words, she knew she wanted to make people feel things with her writing. At first, what Anna thought could only ever be a comforting hobby, soon proved itself to be a formidable career. The first signs of promise were when she began to write for FSU's Honors College Newsletter. She realized that skillful writing took practice and an intuition she innately held. She continued to perfect her literary abilities when joining Florida's State prestigious lifestyle campus magazine, Strike Magazine, and interning as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill. She is now published in literary and college magazines across the country, with both short fiction and poetry. She considers her publications to be her greatest accomplishments.

As a dedicated member to her community, she has over 200 hours of documented community service. Anna innately desires to improve the lives of those in her community in whatever capacity she can. Her biggest volunteer project involved working with The Grove Museum in Tallahassee, collaborating to make it more accessible to visitors on the spectrum and those with visual impairments. She wrote and produced an audio tour that would direct visitors around the museum without distraction and without sacrificing the beauty and history of the museum. Her work was published, and she was invited to present at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference. Her presentation spurred interest and she was later invited to share her work at a special faculty lunch at FSU. This research inspired her, and she hopes to continue working on accessibility projects in the future.

Anna's hobbies include cooking, reading and writing, traveling, and hiking with her dog Monella. When looking for her perfect space, Anna's must-haves are a good kitchen and an outdoor space for Moni to run around in. Above all else, Anna prioritizes dog friendliness. The townhouse she now lives in checked all of her boxes and her backyard even has enough space for the garden she has always wanted. The complex has its own dog park, where her and her dog spend their evenings. Through her life experiences, Anna learned the necessity of a space she could call her own, a space where she felt at ease and that inspired creativity. She looks forward to new housing experiences in wherever life takes her.
