Depending on your living preferences, you may decide that a joint lease (entire apartment) is the best option for you. A joint lease typically costs less than renting by the bedroom, but it also affords you the ability to control who lives in the apartment. Do keep in mind that with a joint lease all residents are held equally responsible for the apartment. Alternatively, you could rent by the bedroom, referred to as an individual lease. As an individual renter, you're only held responsible for your portion of the apartment, yet you may pay more for this ease of mind. There are certainly pros and cons to each, so be sure to do your research before deciding which type of lease is best for you.
