Tallahassee is a great city to live in, especially if you're 18-22 years old! There are plenty of things to do either at school or off-campus. Undergraduate and graduate students should take advantage of athletic events, musical or dance performances and other extra-curricular activities hosted at the school. Saturdays are especially fun whether you're cheering on the Seminoles in Doak Campbell Stadium or listening to the Marching 100 perform at a FAMU football game!
Tallahassee features an array of concerts, galleries and performing arts organizations. The Artport Gallery, located in the terminal of the Tallahassee Regional Airport, showcases artwork created by local and regional artists. Florida's only spot on the National Blue's Trail, the Bradfordville Blues Club features a new artist every weekend! The Donald L. Tucker Civil Center is home to live musical performances, Broadway shows and FSU basketball games.
Acting as the state capital, Tallahassee offers countless internship and job opportunities for students in the area! There are also many delicious restaurants and eateries to check out. Students love to chow down at Mr. Roboto on West Pensacola Street for a quick bite of sushi or other Japanese specialties. Dog Et Al has remained a Tallahassee staple, claiming over 10,000 different ways to make a hot dog for its customers. Food trucks are big in Tallahassee as well – be sure to check out Fired Up Pizza Truck for a slice or two. Cool down with dessert from Gigi's Cupcakes!
Tallahassee has many shopping destinations close to campus, ranging from Governor's Square Mall to various small, trendy boutiques. The nightlife in Tallahassee is very strong with many students flocking to hotspots including Potbelly's, Bullwinkle' and Floyd's Music Store. Potbelly's is great place to go on Tuesdays and Thursdays; this popular student destination features a bar, dance floor and an outside patio. Ranked one of the best college bars in the country, Bullwinkle's has live music, an indoor dance club and a special Thirsty Moose VIP club! Floyd's Music Store has tons of drink specials (great for those on a tight budget) and offers live music several nights of the week.
There are tons of off-campus apartments available for students in Tallahassee. These apartment communities offer student-friendly amenities such as resort-style swimming pools, 24-hour fitness centers and tanning beds. If you're beginning your college career in Tallahassee, many apartments host community events where you can meet new people! Other awesome community amenities include computer labs, tennis/basketball courts, movie theatres, state-of-the-art clubhouses and much more! There are a number of responsibilities that come along with having your own home. Make sure you find an apartment that has rent within your budget; missing rent just one month is bad news! Also, be respectful of your roommates (whether they're your best friends from home or random). Tallahassee is great place to spend your next four years!
