Tallahassee has an abundance of beautiful art, but you have to know where to look! Whether you like to look at traveling art exhibits or check out local artists in your neighborhood, your Tallahassee apartment is just minutes away from several great exhibits. After all, there's always something going on in the art world!
Railroad Square Art Park
Railroad Square Art Park is an area of restored industrial warehouses that sits on 10 acres. More than 50 studios, small shops and galleries call Railroad Square home. Tourists and locals alike visit throughout the year in search of handmade crafts, jewelry and delectable foods. Here you can find the only cafe in Tallahassee that is built out of a real railroad caboose, a sculpture garden and Tallahassee's largest brewery -- Proof Brewing Co. There are activities for the whole family, game nights, adult art classes, and even herbal classes. The city's longest running monthly event takes place right in Railroad Square, or "Little SoHo" as locals call it. At the "First Friday Gallery Hop" there is live music, scrumptious treats and of course, local art! You won't find a more unique place in Tallahassee and the best part is, it's practically in your backyard!
FSU College of Fine Arts
As a Tallahassee resident, you're probably familiar with the FSU College of Fine Arts, a venue that doesn't just attract students but art connoisseurs as well. In 1971, The Fine Arts Gallery was established at FSU. Today it is known as the Museum of Fine Arts, after a name change in 1983. In 2003 it became accredited by the American Association of Museums. Over 6,000 works of art and other objects permanently call this museum home. All year long there are
different exhibitions and events that take place, check them out here. If you're into the performing arts as well, you're in luck! The School of Theater at FSU is one of the top tier training programs in the country! Performances are open to both the public and students. Just like the Fine Arts Museum, there are different events and performances held throughout different times of the year.
Downtown Marketplace
You can catch the Tallahassee Downtown Marketplace from March through November at Ponce De Leon Park. For nearly 20 years this happening spot has been a Saturday staple. Vibe to local musicians, sample fresh, local produce and view regional artists' pieces. Spending a Saturday here is a delightful cultural experience, not to mention you are helping support local art, music and farming. The marketplace holds events the whole family will enjoy, all just minutes from your Tallahassee apartment. In May there is a book fair, a French market in July and the Annual Art Invitational. The Annual Art Invitational is free to the public and features over 70 handpicked artists. In the fall there is a sidewalk chalk contest, the fall festival with free pumpkins (while they last) and an Owl-O-Ween event that features live birds of prey!
