If you are a student at FAMU who enjoys spending time in nature while working up a sweat in the Florida sun, you will want an apartment that is close to your favorite activities. If you are a fan of running outside, Apalachee Regional Park is a great place to live near to get your workout in.  This park was designed for runners, and has multi-purpose fields, a cross country facility, and a variety of surfaces to run on. There is also a great three mile trail that takes you by oak trees and a pond where you can pause to stretch and watch people fish. Another added bonus is that this park is free! If you want to continue your fitness goals during the rainy days we experience here in Florida, you can look on our website and find apartments near FAMU that also have fitness centers. With these two resources at your disposal you can happily cancel your gym membership and save some of your hard-earned money.

West of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University has even more options for outdoor recreation. Lake Talquin State Park and Forest has a fairly large body of water, about 10,000 acres, so you can bring your canoe and explore the lake many times and still find new secluded spots. Much like the former local park, access is free for everyone so you can visit as often as you'd like. Tallahassee is also home to one of the few National forests in the state. Apalachicola National Forest is a hotbed for outdoorists. Escape from the world for the weekend and enjoy either primitive or campground camping. Whether you feel like going birding, hiking, or even kayaking, this park is great for those beautiful spring days. Permits are $40 for the year, so at a relatively low cost you can have access to some of the best preserved nature in the south.

Finally, don't forget to use the facilities that are open to students at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Students often have extremely busy schedules and can find it challenging to balance course loads, working a part-time job, and extracurricular activities. The convenience of being able to work out right on campus is hard to beat. These amenities are often times free and offer standard gyms along with fun group classes. If you are planning on spending a large majority of your time on campus in and out of class, living near FAMU is often the best option for students. Also, if you're like me and have all of your closets jam packed with gear, leasing an apartment with a second bedroom might be a good idea. Taking this extra space to organize your equipment and store it properly will extend its longevity. There are a multitude of apartments near FAMU that provide access to the outdoors, so no matter what area you choose you can always find something that suits you.
