Furnished Apartment Shopping List

Example of a decorated, furnished apartment living room

Furnished apartments are a great option for FSU students looking to live in the best off-campus housing without spending time and money purchasing furniture pieces for their new place. There are many benefits to furniture packages including no need to hire professional movers for large items, such as a bed frame or couch, and much less to buy than when moving into a traditional non-furnished apartment community!

While furnished apartments near FSU don't have every necessity to make your student’s new place feel like home, they are a great start and include most major basics. Below is a list to give you an idea of what may be included in a furnished place. Keep in mind that each apartment is different and you should always check with your leasing agent about which furniture will be included before move-in day!

What is Already Included?

Bedroom Furniture

These items will only be for your student’s own personal bedroom; therefore, they will be solely responsible for the condition of these items upon move out.

  • Bedframe
  • Chair
  • Chest of Drawers (commonly made of 2 pieces that fit under the bed)
  • Desk
  • Mattress
  • Nightstand

Common Area Furniture

All common area furniture will be shared with roommates; therefore, your student and their roommates are mutually responsible for the care and cleaning of these items.

  • Coffee table
  • Couch
  • End table(s)
  • Entertainment/TV stand
  • Loveseat
  • BONUS! Many furniture packages also included a TV!

Below is a list that fills in all the missing pieces to help your student and their roommates decide who is bringing what for the new place. The list is separated by room to ensure that you don't forget any major necessities that aren't already included with the furnished place. This recommended packing list should ensure that your child has everything that they need while you are away.

Pro tip! If family or friends are looking for high school graduation gift ideas for your student, it might be a good idea to register for items you'll need in your future apartment at a big box store (or even Amazon.com). You can use this list for ideas on what you should be registering for!
